How soon does my loved one get released once I turn in a gun on their behalf through GunBail?

Many jail facilities (especially those in major metropolitan areas) are very slow in processing and often have their telephone lines overloaded with calls. GunBail will have your inmate freed as quickly as possible, in the meantime please feel free to call our customer support line to get status updates.

To get updates on your loved one’s release status you must contact the local jail facility in which the arrestee is being processed and held. We understand this can be a frustrating process, you can optionally allow GunBail to track and provide status updates.

If an arrestee has several charges and more than one bail can I turn in multiple guns to cover all bails?
Yes, if an arrestee has multiple bails multiple guns can be turned in to cover all standing bails. If defendant has three charges and three different bails and turns in three separate guns to GunBail then all three bails would be downgraded and arrestee will be released on each bail eligible.
Will the gun I turn in be investigated for previous crimes?
NO! Under GunBail's amnesty agreement no weapon turned in through our program will be investigated further.
Will my inmate's current charges be dropped if I turn in a gun?
GunBail has no influence on your loved one’s current charges and no charges will be dropped or considered in any way by our program. We simply help arrestees gain ROR release in exchange for a working firearm.
ALL DEFENDANTS STILL HAVE TO REPORT TO COURT TO BE TRIED FOR THEIR CURRENT CHARGES.
What is amnesty, who guarantees it, and how long does it last?
Amnesty is a decision that a group of people will not be punished or that a group of prisoners will be allowed to go free. The city where you are turning in your weapon guarantees your amnesty through the GunBail program, and this agreement last indefinitely for as long as the defendant reports for any associated court hearings/dates.
Does it matter what type of charge (current or previous) the inmate has?
YES, each city has its own individual guidelines to determine which individual crimes that make an arrestee ineligible for GunBail release. For a list of disqualifying charges please visit your local law enforcement agency's website.
What types of guns do I or can I turn in ?
GunBail accepts any kind of WORKING firearm in exchange for release on recognizance.
Do I have to pay anything towards my bail to be released?
There is no financial requirement towards bail for the release of your loved one.
The only monetary requirement is the $99 shipping and mailing fee.
Is the person who turns in the gun held responsible if the arrestee does not show up for court date?
NO! Once you turn in the gun on an arrestee’s behalf it is the sole responsibility of the arrestee to appear to any and all associated court dates. You yourself bear no additional responsibility.
Can the person turning in a gun on behalf of an inmate be charged?
NO! Under the applicable amnesty agreement the third party individual who turns in a gun on an arrestee’s behalf WILL NOT be apprehended, taken into custody, or charged for turning in the weapon.
Does the gun have to be brand new or working for me to get released?
GunBail accepts any kind of WORKING firearm in exchange for release on recognizance.
Can somebody come pick up the gun from my loved one or do they HAVE to take it somewhere ?
NO! GunBail is a completely voluntary and we do not have the capacity to personally pick up the illegal guns. If you wish to help your loved one and your community, simply follow the procedure and turn in the gun yourself at one of the appropriate locations.
What happens if someone is stopped by police while on the way to turn in the gun?
If you are stopped for any reason by law enforcement while attempting to surrender a gun via the GunBail system you will not be arrested for possession of that weapon. Through GunBail you are protected for up to 2 hours while the firearm is in transit to the dropoff location.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
a) Said gun must be exact match to GunBails photographed gun for surrender.
b) Said gun must be completely unloaded without clip or bullets inside.
c) Gun must be properly and securely packed inside GunBails mailing material.
d) If transported in a vehicle the packaged gun must be stored/carried in the trunk of the vehicle.
